I am excited to be at St. Pat's this year as a Lit Support teacher. Although it is only my second year at St. Pat's, I have been a teacher with YCS since 2004. The majority of my teaching experience has been as a literacy/language arts specialist but I have also taught in primary, elementary and middle school homerooms. I have taught all grade levels from Kindergarten to grade 12. I am originally from central Saskatchewan and completed by B.A. in English and my B. Ed. A.D. at the University of Saskatchewan. In 2013, I completed an M. Ed (Reading and Literacy) from the University of Walden in Minneapolis, MN. Before moving to the Northwest Territories in 1998, my husband, Tim, who is a retired RCMP officer, and our two children lived in Swift Current, SK. Our plan of spending four years in the north has turned into 23 so far and we are very happy to call Yellowknife home. Our family expanded from two to four children after moving north and all four graduated from St. Pat's. Currently, the oldest and the youngest - Mallory and Jonathan - are attending post-secondary in Alberta and the two middle boys - Ben and Josh - live and work in Yellowknife.

This is my first year teaching at ESPHS. I have lived in Yellowknife my whole life, and I am an alumni of ESPHS! I graduated from St.Patrick High School in 2012, and I couldn't be happier to be starting my career back in my stomping grounds. I have a Bachelor of Science, with a major in Chemistry, and I completed my Secondary Education After-Degree Program through the University of Alberta, majoring in Science and Math, with a minor in French. I am currently teaching Math and Science in both French and English. If I am not at school... you can find me on the soccer field or playing other sports! I am excited to start my journey as a teacher and support our youth, just like many of the staff here supported me!

Hello, I joined the St. Pat’s Irish family in 2019. This year I am teaching English Language Arts from grade 8 to 11. I received both my Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees at Saint Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. In my undergrad, I majored in Celtic studies and minored in Fine Arts. Through my education degree, I was able to train as a middle school teacher. Since graduating I have enjoyed teaching a range of classes including middle school ages. When not in the classroom I enjoy arts and crafts, gardening, kayaking, reading folklore, and brushing up on my Scottish Gaelic language skills.

George Daliva

Teacher

Hello, my name is Mr. George Daliva. I am your new Teacher for Math and Science subjects for Grades 8 and 9. I was born and raised in the beautiful country of the Philippines. I graduated with the degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering and Master of Science in Engineering in the Philippines. I finished my PhD in Technology also from the Philippines and eventually ended up teaching in one of the Universities in the Middle East. I moved to Toronto in 2007 from the Sultanate of Oman after 7 years of teaching College and University students. An opportunity came for me to move to Yellowknife when I got hired as a Senior Broadcast Engineer at CKLB. It was one of the best work experiences I ever had to travel around the North and meet great people in the communities. Two years ago, I moved to CBC-Radio Canada as a Senior Broadcast Technician here in Yellowknife, to further enhance my technical experience in both Radio and Television. Finally, I was accepted to be part of St. Patrick High School and didn't say no at all, as teaching is always my passion. On my spare time, I am playing both indoor and beach volleyball (during summer). I have been playing with YKVA League for the last 6 six years. I have been one of the Board of Directors of Volleyball NT and a volleyball referee for the last four years. During weekend, I go for a jog and walk around the Frame Lake trail and do some lane swim at the RIMP. You may also find me running at the Fieldhouse track late in the evening during winter. With that, I hope to see you around. Thank you.

I graduated in 1989 and completed my Bachelor of Arts (Political Science/History) and Bachelor of Education (English/Social Studies) at the University of Alberta. My wife is also a teacher with Yellowknife Catholic Schools and teaches English at Ecole St. Joseph School. I love literature and being able to teach it at my old high school was a dream come true. I have also had the opportunity to coach many different sports teams at St. Pat's and in the community. I love it!

This is my twenty-sixth year teaching; twenty-one of which have been in Yellowknife. (Not sure how that's possible since I'm only 29!) I came here from Nova Scotia on a two-year plan but fell in love with the North. Over the years, I have taught a variety of grade levels and subjects, my favourite being grade eight English Language Arts. I am currently a Literacy Support Teacher and librarian. I spend the majority of my days with grade eight and nine English Language Arts classes. I am one of the staff advisors for our school's Best Buddies Chapter (http://bestbuddies.ca/). Let me know if you'd like to learn more about our amazing group.

As you can tell by looking at my picture, I can be mildly crazy and sometimes even funny 🤪. Usually, you would pay extra to sit in the front row of a show or concert, but in my class, it is completely free. I’m a young teacher from Ottawa, Ontario and I love teaching 👨‍🏫. When I’m in front of my class or talking with one of my students, it is truly where I feel like I belong. I’m the Core French teacher at St-Pats ☘️, but I also teach religion and coding. In my free time, I love to play board games and video games 🎮. Why Yellowknife you ask? The short answer to this question would be that it was either Yellowknife or China 🐼. I’ve decided to stay in our beautiful country 🍁 and I don’t regret my decision. I love Yellowknife, our school and its community. It truly feels like home now 🏠. The best way to get a hold of me is by sending me an email at francis.labelle@ycs.nt.ca. Do not hesitate to contact me with any concerns or questions.

Hello folks! This is my 12th year at St. Pat's where I teach Drama, Visual Art, and lots of other things in between, including English, Social Studies, Religion, and Health. If you are looking for me at the school, you can usually find me in the Art Room or the Drama Room. The student groups I advise are: L.I.F.E. Group (Lived Inclusion for Everyone), - which supports and creates a safe space for LGBTIQ+ students and allies Green Team - the student-led environmental activism group Interact - The High School branch of the Rotary Club, which is dedicated to doing charitable acts in and for the community. *This one is REALLY supervised by Ms. Silzer & Ms. Stanbridge - I'm more there to provide a space and to look good. As per the orders of the CPHO, there is to be no Drama this year, and yes, it leaves a lot of us a bit brokenhearted. I encourage you to keep the Arts alive in as many other ways as possible until we are allowed to do theatre productions once again. If any of you are interested in doing something Dramatic in a COVID-Safe way during FLEX, come talk to me about your ideas. Also, as always, if students are looking for COM hours, there are always various Art & Drama jobs to be done at the school, so just come see me. Here's to another great year! - Ms. Smith
