New G Suite Apps

December 4, 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians;

As you are aware we use G Suite for Education through a secure domain at Yellowknife Catholic Schools. G Suite for Education is a set of education productivity and learning  tools from Google including Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Classroom, and more used by tens of millions of students and teachers around the world.

Students use their G Suite accounts to complete assignments, learn using new and exciting instructional tools, communicate with their teachers, sign into their Chromebooks, and learn 21st century and digital citizenship skills.

GSuite for Education applications provide opportunities for students to explore, share, create, and think critically about the content they are experiencing in their classes, and to become more aware of the wider global community.

We wish to make you aware that Yellowknife Catholic Schools will be opening additional GSuite for Education applications for instructional use with our students. New GSuite for Education applications include Google Earth, Google Maps, Blogger and other approved applications for instruction. Access to these additional applications will provide increased learning opportunities for our students. This letter is in addition to permission forms previously signed for use of standard GSuite for Education applications in the secure ycs.nt.ca domain.

If you have additional questions, or for more information regarding GSuite for Education please call your school principal or myself at any time. Thank you for your continued support of Yellowknife Catholic Schools’ vision for preparing our students for the future.

Sincerely,

Simone Gessler

Midterm Report Card

Dear Parents and Guardians,

At École St. Patrick High School we envision a culture that supports the continuous improvement of student achievement.   You will be receiving the midterm Semester One report card this Friday, November 10th.

Please take a moment to review the report card with your child.  Your support in helping to celebrate successes and/or to address any areas that require improvement is appreciated.  We will be doing a report card reflection activity in Mentorship with students as well.

Please call us at 873-4888 to book appointment times for our 3 Way Conferences which will be held on November 16th from 1-4pm and 6-9pm.  There will be no school for Grades 9-12 in the afternoon.  There will be additional Grade 8 interview slots from 8:30am-12pm on November 16th and there will be no school for Grade 8 students that morning as well.    We are happy to meet with you in person, via electronic communication tools, or simply speak on the phone.

During our 3 Way Conferences, the PAC is hosting a session for parents on how to access our Parent Portal, Google Classroom, school website and social media sites.  Just drop by our computer lab before, after, or between your appointments to learn how to login and see your child's grades, attendance and learn about what is going on at school.

Ongoing communication is very important.  Any time you have any questions or concerns about your child’s programming or progress, please do not hesitate to contact us.  Thank you for your continued support as we work together to support student learning.

Sincerely yours,

Gillian Dawe-Taylor

Report Coming Home October 13, 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians,

At École St. Patrick High School we follow a rigorous student achievement reporting schedule.  You will receive one Grade Book report and two report cards per semester- one mid-term and one at the end of term.  The schedule follows for your convenience.

The Grade Book report that you will receive on October 13, 2017, offers you an opportunity to reflect with your child on their learning habits and achievement.  It is a time to celebrate successes, set goals, and make any needed adjustments.    While we are not holding a Three Way Conference at present, you are encouraged to contact the teachers should you have any questions or concerns.  Meetings can be held in person or via electronic communication tools such as Skype or simply via telephone.

You can view your child’s grades and attendance at any time by logging into the Parent Portal.  You need a username and password to do this, which can be obtained by contacting our front office team.  Email Eletha or Mandy at eletha.curran@ycs.nt.ca or mandy.marrai@ycs.nt.ca or phone them at 873-4888.
